Whats yours?

I work at Starbucks as we all know….and we have the Christmas blend coffee. When someone is ordering a cup of our drip Christmas Blend it is easier to write “Xmas” on the cup so that people know it is our Christmas Blend and not Pike Place….pretty simple and makes sense….right?

A few days ago i had a customer come in who was very offended that i would put Xmas on her cup. They said that i was taking Jesus out of Christmas….I was rather dumbfounded at this point because after explaining my reason they were still offended…but clearly 4 letters is easier than 9 letters in a rush…and yes, i could have written “bold” since it is the bold…but xmas just works.

so this got the old wheels a turnin’

….does it really matter?

the more i thought about it….it is a rather religious practice….cause doesnt it matter what is in your heart? You can say Merry CHRISTmas all you want but if Christ is not an active player in your life and heart it doesnt matter how many times you say it it wont change whats truly in your heart….and in my case i can write “Xmas” and i do actively seek God and have a relationship with him and i dont personally feel convicted because it still reminds me of Christ….

so just out of curiosity and some friendly discussion….

Does it really matter? is Christmas better than Xmas?

And the bag is very very pretty.

ummmm….so…..ya, february.

They were telling me of times when they were growing up that their parents wernt sure how and where food would come from for the family.

That thought is so foreign to me.

When i was growing up we always had everything we wanted….
We always got what we wanted, toys, food, video games, vacations….
We always got a TON of Christmas gifts….
We always went out to eat…..
We always traveled and had amazing vacations.

So i have no idea what it was like to grow up that way. Now is another story, but growing up we were spoiled.

I actually had my dads credit card until the day after i got married. He would let me know what i spent monthly and even at 21 i thought it was a little extravagant. but it was what i was used to.

I wanted a MacBook ….I got a MacBook
I wanted an iPod…..I got an iPod
I wanted to go out to eat 2/3 times a day…..I went to eat
I wanted to fly somewhere for the weekend….I flew there

It was all i knew. So why would i be any different.

But i wish that i would have had to experience some discipline in the money area. I never saw it from my parents because they always spent. They saved too, but we didnt see that….we just saw the spending.

And now as i am an adult and married and learning how to manage our finances i have a hard time switching in my mind that money doesnt run out….because i have since learned that it does. :\

Both of my parents on separate occasions have apologized to me for the disservice that was done by not showing us how to save, spend and budget.

And i wish i had known earlier. It would have saved me a lot of heartache and trouble through my life.

So i am curious, did you grow up getting everything you ever wanted or in want?

Today i had my first impressions day at Starbucks. I know this sounds really funny, but it is a dream of mine to work at Starbucks and make coffee.

So today a part of that dream came true. as i am sitting there talking to the Manager i am thinking about all of my Starbucks memories… (and can i note that my computer said that Starbucks was spelled wrong because the S was not capitalized…haha!)

after Chad asked me to marry him and we went to Starbucks to celebrate with our friends…. and he used his connections to make this awesome sign!!

Just a lot of happy memories with Starbucks…and i am a total dork and am really really really excited about working there.  aaaaaaaaand today i got my apron.  i am now the proud owner of a Green Apron and a Starbucks Partner. The aprons a little dirty, but ummmm…come on!!
