I agree. I think there would be less people hurt by the church if everyone was just real…lived the same in the church walls as they do outside the church walls. But i do think that there needs to be the community of believers that you gather with for fellowship, encouragement, worship…etc.

I think you hit it with different styles. I like to call them different expressions. Each church has a different way of expressing its faith. For some the church is more about the building than others. That can be good or bad…but it is definitely just one way of expressing their faith.

oh, dont get me wrong i agree with you. I dont think me and you meeting at Starbucks is church….because we are in relationship and there needs to be a level of meeting together and the uber christian word \”fellowship'. But i am just curious what church looks like or should look like….

do we judge the quality of the church by the size, the building, the pastor….or does it boil down to each of us have different styles and the community and church we connect with is the \”right\” one for us….or is there a model that works the best….just thinking out loud.

Not sure the corporate church is at all able to get close to what it should be because people are involved. And we all know we are ummm…flawed. I am happy knowing there are people in the world in or out of the "church" that are doing their best to be real with God, themselves and others. I just wish those that are sooooo passionate wouldn't sound soooo crazy and speak in such spiritual ease, that it annoyed others including me. Let's just all be human and who we are and not try to be who or what anyone else makes us feel or tells us to we should be. And just incase your wondering….no, I don't have a chip on my shoulder ;0)

Can church be anywhere? I have a hard time when people meet at Starbucks with a friend and they say that was church for them. Sure there is an element of gathering together, no matter the size, no matter the place, that is church. It seems to me though that the Bible had a gathering in mind with a purpose of bringing glory to God through the spoken Word and through worship of some sort…and if we are talking early church, the eating of a meal together which included Communion. I don't know that you can do all those things at Starbucks with your friend.

I just think that people make church the building, but it is so much more. We are called to be carriers of God's Presence...

so, can church be anywhere we are? Communing with others and with God.

I think church looks like or I would want church to look like whatever the mission called for. This is something that Dan Kimball kind of hit on yesterday it resonated with me a lot. So sure church is a community but church can use a building for the sake of the mission of the Gospel. It isn't the building but it can use a building effectively.
