technology free days
28 Apr
This week has been an incredible week at the All Access conference. Although we didnt have internet through most of the conference it was still a blast. I thought it was funny that the Compassion Team in Indiahas a better internet connection than we did in Raleigh, NC. Just saying it is funny. No 3G cell coverage and only sometimes Edge and wireless that cut in and out which made the Live Mogulus and Live Blogging a little difficult….but for the next All Access Conference it will be better.
as i was thinking about the fact that i was getting to the point that i could cuss because i couldnt get online, i couldnt update twitter, i couldnt blog i realized how ridiculously connected I am.
What would the world be like if we disconnected from time to time? What if we found the off button to our phones, our ipods, our computers….what if God is speaking to you and me each second of every day (which he is) and we miss it because of the noise in our life?
As i type this and try my best to vomit on the page i am listening to music, sending my husband a text message and have the news playing on the tv in front of me. Overload….
Chad and i have been talking since i came back from my 40 days off of Social Media and my week long vacation with rare cell phone and internet how i should really take an OFF DAY. when i say that i mean turn things off.
So we devised a plan…we have this extra phone number that someone used to use and they dont, so we just pay the 3 dollars it is a month to keep it. because in case of emergencies i have to have a phone, but i will use that number and the only person who knows it is Chad. I will be turned off and totally unreachable.
I like the idea of that. i feel like it is a step in the direction of Mondays becoming a true sabbath. No technology…that means no blog, no twitter, no facebook, no iphone, no computer….disconnected.
So starting this Monday i am instituting what i am calling “technology free days.”
What can you do to disconnect?
