I don’t *have* to have one of these songs, but they usually wind up on my playlist when I’m crying:

Stavesacre – Gold and Silver
Matthew – Overboard
Switchfoot – Let That Be Enough

Lately I listen to Dustin Kensrue to combat crying. And Yo Yo Ma – Gabriel’s Oboe from The Mission is great when I’m super stressed.

“Let Go” by itself doesn’t do it, but in context in “Garden State” it just kills me.

I’m probably twice as old as anyone here, but here goes anyway…..

- “Down In A Hole” by Alice in Chains. The most wrenching cry for help I’ve ever heard.

- “Blue Ridge Mountains” by Fleet Foxes, just because of the pure beauty of it.

- “The End” from “Abbey Road” because… it really was the end.

I too must have emotional inspiration in order to cry. From a long line of being taught from birth to hold it in….
Old worship song “Oh the deep deep love of Jesus” gets me every time – no matter where I am. Also, The Lulaby in “Prince of Egypt” when Moses’ mom is putting him in the basket to send him off…..I sung it to my own babies and cried every single time without fail.
“Glory come Down” by Sara Groves too. “It didn’t take me too long to find – the chains you just had freed me from. I got so used to having them on- I didn’t know how to live in freedom. And it can’t be – no it can’t be- what you have intended for me. Glory Come down.”

I don’t consider myself a “cry baby”, but I can have a real good cry from time to time. No particular song is needed, although sometimes I have to hold back tears during worship songs(kinda hard to cry and sing at the same time).

I used to cry a lot when I listened to "Good bye" by Plankeye... I first heard it around the time my brother died, but now (after finding out it is about friends that have left) it is more of a comforting song than a sad one. Wow, I need to update my blog... That’s kind of a weird song to cry to… I mean, the lyrics fit the bill, but the beat is more techno-y like most Imogen songs. You’re a strange one :)

Anyway, I always cry to “Butterfly Kisses” or “The Hand Song” (Nickle Creek) or “Whiskey Lullaby”. It gets me. And they’re safe to cry to because they’re ‘other-pity’ songs as opposed to ’self-pity’ songs. Those I steer clear from.
