the skinny on the ring….

If you have been to Birmingham you have seen the Vulcan. He is this Iron statue over Birmingham….granted what he stands for is not too great, but it overlooks Birmingham and is super romantic.

We had gone there before we were dating and in our awkward stage of the relationship….i like you, you like me, great….but neither of us would say it. so being at a super romantic spot in Birmingham and saying things like, “hey look, its UAB” or “downtown is so beautiful at night.”

Now to the real story…that was just the set up.

We spent the day looking at rental properties in Southside and just Birmingham. Then i knew that he had planned to go to dinner at this super trendy sushi place called Jinsei in SOHO square in Homewood. it was really nice. then i asked if we could go see August Rush and chad told me that we had some other plans and to trust him. so i did.

we drove to Vulcan and got out of the car…he had 3 things in his hand. as we were walking around he was saying that because i had a rough week last week that he was so persistent in making sure i had a good week so he wanted to start my week off great. so we went to the top of vulcan and he gave me the first gift, which was a necklace to wear to a banquet Highlands is having for our “dream team.” then a Hanson sticker…because come on, who doesnt love Hanson?!? and then he had another box. he gave it to me to unwrap and was talking and he said that it wasnt “what i think it is” and because we went shopping yesterday he knew what length earings to get me…but they were also to wear tomorrow night. i was struggling to open it so he took over and he opened it and got down on one knee and said “Lynse Walls…….and i dont remember what was inserted here because i am sure that my heart and the world stopped simultaneously…..will you marry me.” and i clearly said yes.

Then we called our parents and i asked if i could call Gina, my mom in town and he said no that the night was not over and that “phone lines were now closed.” so we went to Starbucks and my future brother in law Zac and my future sister in law Jodi were there and then all of my people started to come in. it was a huge group of all of the people that i love so very much.

and chad has a starbucks connection so we got free drinks and the sign that usually tells about specials just said “Congratulations Lynse and Chad.”

and i am still starring at the ring wondering if this whole thing is real…if i am really engaged. it seems like a dream, but if it is i really dont want to wake up.

So now you all get to join me on the journey of planning a wedding in 4 months….i have a little less than that to the selected date.
